New Senior Residential Facilities in Northern Virginia

In the search for a senior residential facility in the Washington DC metro area, waiting lists are all-too common. In fact, some of the more popular facilities may not have room availability for several months to a year. Others request a sizeable down payment just to get onto their waitlist. So, we were pleased to find several brand new residential care facilities opening soon in northern Virginia.

Brightview Woodburn has a perfect location, just inside the beltway in Annandale, Virginia. The facility offers both assisted living and memory care in a mid-century, modern design to match the surrounding neighborhood. Residents have a choice of studio, one-bedroom, or two bedroom apartments. There will be 70 standard assisted living residences, as well as 30 units in Wellspring Village, the memory care neighborhood. As with most assisted living residences, Brightview Woodburn will offer laundry and housekeeping services, medication management, activities, assistance with personal care, scheduled transportation and three chef-prepared meals each day. The Executive Director is Peggy Rowell Breda. Brightview Woodburn is scheduled to open in May 2016.

The Crossings at Chantilly is located in the Oak Hill section of Herndon in western Fairfax County. The spacious campus will feature 101 independent living apartments, 36 assisted living units, and a memory care neighborhood (Harmony Square) with room for 24 residents. The community features outdoor gardens for residents, as well as walking trails and specially designed outdoor space. There is also a fitness center on the campus. Residents can choose from studios, one or two bedroom apartments. Fine dining at The Crossings will include farm-to-table meals to emphasize wellness and a healthy lifestyle. Life at The Crossings is maintenance-free with laundry and housekeeping services in the assisted living community. Scheduled transportation is provided, as well as medication management, assistance with personal care, and structured activities. The Executive Director is Erika Young. The Crossings of Chantilly is scheduled to open in summer 2016.

This skilled nursing facility is located adjacent to The Crossings at Chantilly, providing a full continuum of care, from independent living to skilled nursing care, all on the same campus. While Dulles Rehab is operated by a separate company, residents of The Crossings will have priority to services at the 166-bed skilled nursing facility. Dulles Healthcare and Rehab will provide full rehabilitation services, long-term nursing care and respite care on-site. The facility is scheduled to open in mid-2016.

Tribute at Heritage Village is located just off Route 66 in Prince William County, and adjacent to the Novant Health Medical Center. The community will offer both assisted living and the Lighthouse Program for memory care. In addition to providing medication management, assistance with personal care, activities, and transportation, Tribute at Heritage Village will also feature a movie theater and chef-prepared meals. Residents will have a choice of a variety of different studio and one-bedroom suites. Tribute at Heritage Village is scheduled to open in summer/fall 2016.

Ashleigh will be the newest senior community associated with Retirement Unlimited, a local company with senior communities in Annandale, Burke and other Virginia locations. Scheduled to open in the fall of 2016, the community will offer both assisted living and memory care options. In addition to providing meals, medication management, activities, and assistance with personal care, Ashleigh will also offer a salon, library, theater and computer room for residents. There are options for studio, one bedroom, or two bedroom apartments.

Opening in early 2017, Waltonwood of Ashburn will offer a continuing care community with independent living, assisted living, and memory care options. Touted as an upscale senior community, Waltonwood will feature outdoor walking trails, a salon and spa, billiard room, computer center, and massage therapy. The location is ideal, right off Route 7 and close to all the shopping and restaurant amenities of Ashburn Village. Residents will choose from studios, one bedroom, or two bedroom apartment homes. Meals are chef-prepared and offered in the dining room or café.

Tribute at One Loudoun has plans for a senior community with a resort-like environment. Located near the corner of Route 7 and Route 28 in Sterling, Virginia, the community will offer 140 units of assisted living and memory care options. Along with standard assisted living amenities, the facility will feature a salon and spa, a movie theater, and a rooftop terrace. With a holistic approach to resident care, Tribute at Loudoun One will use technology to access apartments, track activity, and digitalize resident information and health care. Residents will have the option of studios, one or two bedroom apartments. Tribute is scheduled to open in March 2017.

Located in the heart of Falls Church, this urban high-rise will offer assisted living and memory care options in a total of 88 apartment residences. A unique aspect of this facility is that Falls Church Arts (FCA) has already rented space on the ground floor of the building, offering a wealth of opportunities for arts classes and demonstrations for residents. The memory care neighborhoods at The Kensington will offer two options, one for early stage, and another for those with more advanced dementia. The Kensington is scheduled to open in early 2017.

For older adults in the local area, OAC provides mental health counseling, care planning, and assistance with resources in an effort to support quality of life throughout one’s senior years. This company’s willingness to meet with individuals in their own homes or senior living communities makes them unique. Currently, rates are $150 for an initial consultation and $130 for a clinical hour. OAC works with Medicare and insurance plans to cover the cost of service. Their therapists specialize in using a team approach with clients in problem solving and planning for care.
